At the heart of every successful organization lies the capacity for dynamic discussions and collaborative solutions. At our recent client roundtable, we dove deep into such dialogue, exploring the nuances of "CDS Governance: Strategies and Challenges."
We were fortunate to be joined by representatives from many of our partner health systems. Three partners shared their unique experiences, successes, and challenges but also provided invaluable insights into topics like the order set review cycle and approaches to EHR alert review and design. Their firsthand experiences and perspectives truly enriched the discourse, casting new light on the practical applications of these strategies.
One prevalent challenge that emerged during the discussion was ownership and end-user engagement. This issue, exacerbated by frequent shifts in roles and responsibilities, has been a notable obstacle across organizations. Various strategies are in place to address this. Some partners have assigned responsibility at the service line level, while another partner has adopted a proactive approach, requiring engagement before implementing any new tools for that service line.
The discourse further ventured into the challenging topic of defining return on investment (ROI) related to conducting "good" governance. With most partners expressing that they spent more time than allocated by their organizations, the question arose: how can we effectively advocate for more resources?
Several strategies were shared during the discussion. Some organizations have dedicated staff to handle organization and engagement, while others have general informaticists who shoulder some of these responsibilities. This has highlighted the necessity for adaptability, resourcefulness, and continual reassessment in striking a balance between optimal ROI and resource allocation.
Our partners' candidness during the roundtable was not only insightful but also instrumental in fostering a shared understanding of the challenges and solutions in CDS governance. We are deeply grateful for their contributions and look forward to fostering more of these enriching discussions in the future. Their willingness to discuss their processes and challenges underscored the need for adaptive, user-engaged approaches, and adequate resourcing in the field of healthcare informatics.
A heartfelt thank you once again to everyone who participated. Here at Phrase Health, we are not just excited but energized to continue working with our partners. We are keen on integrating their valuable feedback into our technology to streamline workflows further, bolster efficiency, and ultimately enhance patient care.
